l have a 1996 ford explorer sport and the exterior door handle quit working. My boyfriend is going to change it, and he is got it loose. The only thing holding the handle in now is the clip. He can not figure out how to get that out. He said the rod is in the way. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

The clip is plastic. Have him look for the OPEN end on the rod.
the rod will release when unlocked from the rod shaft. Once the clip swings free, the rod will come out of the metal hole. Use a straight screwdriver to push the clip from the rod.
If the door handle is broken, it is held on by rivets. They will need to be drilled and re-riveted. Takes a special rivet gun & rivets.
